Our church has a wonderful prayer team led by Meredith Fichtel.
Meredith writes:
“You are my hiding place and my shield; I hope in Your word.” Psalm 119: 114 “Faith
is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen. It gives us assurance about things we cannot see… It is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to Him must believe that God exists and that He rewards those who sincerely seek Him. “Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep His promises. Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. Keep on loving each other as brothers and sisters. Don’t forget to show hospitality to strangers, for some who have done this have entertained angels without realizing it! Remember those in prison, as if you were there yourself. Remember also those being mistreated, as if you felt their pain in your own bodies.” Hebrews 11: 1, 6; 10: 23 – 24; 13: 1 – 3
This Lenten season we are called as people of God to renewed faith, renewed trust, renewed commitment to our Father, God, and to Jesus, our Lord and Savior, and to loving our neighbor. We can’t do any of these things without reading His Word, knowing what God has promised to those who believe, and understanding what He expects of us, as believers. And, we can’t do any of these things without connecting with Him in prayer, worshipping Him, and serving His people.
The acronym PRAY can be a helpful guide to a fruitful, joyful time of Lenten rededication to the God who gave His Son so that we would be saved. P raise Him R epent of your sins A sk Him for your needs Y ield yourself fully to His will.
Praise God with thanksgiving, giving Him the glory in prayer; Repent by confessing your sin and asking God for forgiveness; Ask God for whatever you need – healing, guidance, protection, strength, patience, wisdom – whatever you need He will provide within His will; Yield yourself, that is, surrender your life to God (yes, He has it anyway; but we must repeatedly put our will, our ways, our plans under His direction). Of course, none of this is “one and done.” We are called to praise, gratitude, petition, and surrender every day of our lives. But, when you have no strength, and you just can’t, rely on the Holy Spirit. He knows what you need. God said, “I will never leave you or forsake you.” And, He won’t.
Let us pray: Lord of my life, my maker, sustainer, giver of all blessings, healer, protector, guide, All-Mighty God, I don’t even know how to thank You enough for all You have done for me. But, You know my heart. You know that I love You and Jesus, my Savior. And, I know that You love me unconditionally. You love me even knowing my faults, my sins, my fears, my doubts. Amazing. Incredible. Thank You. Help me, Lord, to do better going forward, not looking back at the past. Help me, Lord to be the person You know I can be. In Jesus’ name, I pray.. Amen.
