Have you ever listened to Positive, Encouraging K-Love Christian radio and thought, “I wish I could find a positive, encouraging church? The Centerport United Methodist Church seeks to be just that! We’re a mixture of seekers and believers, traditional and contemporary, old and young. We love the Lord and practice our faith through worship, faith-based programs, Bible studies and community outreach. We’re a reconciling church, which means all are welcome, except the unwelcoming! Politics are absent from our pulpit, because what we really want on Sunday mornings is to gain some strength to get us through the week, to be reminded of how much God adores us, and to be inspired to help others with the same love that God has already given to us.
We’re not a perfect church, because people are not perfect, but as John Wesley (the founder of the UMC) writes, we are striving toward perfection. We feel that by reading many translations of the Bible, and by listening to everyone’s opinions, experiences and stories, we may be able to get closer to learning what God wants for us. We never know where the next lesson will come from: the deer in the woods, the wind on the waves, a note in a song, a connection made at Coffee Hour, a mission trip, a moment of silence, and sometimes even an honest-to-goodness, old-fashioned sermon, just like your grandparents used to hear, but without the fire and brimstone.
We know that everyone goes church shopping, because once upon a time, we went church shopping too ~ and we ended up here! Our advice is very simple: visit a lot of churches, and choose the one that feels like home. We would love to be your next church home, but even more than that, we’d love for you to find the faith community that is right for you. If you’re shy, feel free to follow our services on the home page of this website in an easy-to-digest, no-commitment fashion, and if you’re ready to meet us in person, we invite you to come to church any Sunday morning at 10 a.m. Park in the north parking lot, go in the entrance, walk up the stairs and down the hall and you’ll be in our beautiful sanctuary. After church, join us for Coffee Hour and/or feel free to follow the west pathway, a short walk down to the ocean, bridge and eagles!
No matter what you decide, may the Lord bless you and keep you; make his face shine upon you, and be gracious to you. May the Lord turn his face toward you, and give you peace. Amen.
